This weekend felt like it was done before it started. Where did my weekend go?

Friday night, A. and I had a wedding reception to go too. We met the lovely bride and groom in Cuba this year. She looked beautiful. It was a very nice reception too. The room was lit up with paper balls (like from Ikea) with blue lights inside. My favorite part of the evening, was the groom took off the garter from his now wife. The performance had 007 written all over it.

One lesson I did learn that evening, is to start letting A. pick out my dresses more often. I can’t believe the amount of compliments I got on it. It was a red bandeau dress from American Appeal. I’ll have to keep that in mind, next time I have to go shopping for a dress.

Saturday morning was a little rough for some of us, so we slowly made our way back to Ottawa from the wedding reception. Later that afternoon, we had a work BBQ to go too, I like the idea that you get a chance to meet your coworkers better halves and their kids. A. and I drove one of our coworker’s husband and son to the party. He was such a cute kid, he kept yelling ‘fire truck!’ from the back seat. We hope that one day, when we decide to have a kid, that he acts as good as this one.  ”Steam Roller!!”

Saturday evening, we met up with someone that wants to buy A.’s ‘fun’ car. I’m a little sad that he’s trying to sell it, but he says now is a good time. The guy that is buying it and will be picking it up at 8:00am this morning. Goodbye Talon.

Sunday, we drove to Carleton Place and went to the Vintage Car Show. A.’s dad restores old corvettes and he was there with his turquoise one. It’s such a beautiful car. He actually won 2 awards while we were there. One was for best corvette in show. After the Car Show, we went to Sammy’s in Dunrobin. Did you hear that they have the best pizza is West Carleton? Check out your local EMC to see what other categories Sammy’s won. I love going there, the food is always good.

After Sammy’s we headed home and I spent some time working on my butterfly box again. I’m coming to a bit of a plateau with that. I’m not sure how to put the butterflies in the box. Any suggestions? 

Last night, I also got a chance to work on a set of gummy bear necklace charms for a friend, who wants to give them to her wedding party. If anyone wants some gummy bear charms, please let me know today, because I will be working at it again tonight. No charge, I just need your address.

Other than that, that’s it. No beach sittin’ this weekend, I hope the rain will hold off on Wednesday, because I have big plans with the beach.

My hands are tinted with a light shade of purple. Stupid me for not knowing better to wear gloves. 

This weekend was really fun. It started off with a friend’s 25th birthday party. Then on Saturday, we visited A’s grandparents and then went to a Cuba reunion party. It’s been a while since all 19 of us got together. This time the party was being hosted at my brother’s place. While at the party, I learned how to play beer pong, got invited to a weekend and  started getting ideas and plans from the girls for our next trip down south.

Sunday we got crafty and tie dyed. It was an event put on by Spins and Needles. For $10, all of the materials are included, except for your item that you would like to dye. To tie dye, we brought pillowcases, a small knitting bag and white tights. Everything is still drying right now. I’m hoping to be able to put everything in the dryer this evening. To finish off our weekend, we had a BBQ feast at our place and played some Electronic Banking Monopoly*.  I love weekends like this, busy, but fun.

This week should be a little crazy with work and stuff. Will post more soon.

Organizing is fun. Friday, I spent my evening downloading music and organizing my iTunes account. It took almost took 3 hours! We had a lot of untitled, unwritten artists and genres that needed to be updated. Apparently, I have a lot of patience for this. Oh well, it was fun. I enjoyed doing it. 

Saturday, we went to Montreal for what was supposed to be a romantic evening for two, turned out to be a fun evening for eight! I didn’t mind at all, they were the same good crowd of people that we went to Cuba with, so really it was a pleasure to have them with us. 

While we were in Montreal, the girls went off to get a bit of shopping in, since we only had about an hour to shop, and the guys went to a nice pub on St. Catherine St. After shopping, we headed off to the Montreal Auto Car Show to check out some nice cars. The one thing that I saw that I really liked is called an e-scooter. I think I would like to see one of these again up close. I would actually consider getting one, but need a bit more information on them first (and can’t buy one this month anyway).

For dinner, we went to the Baton Rouge ($$!) and then drank some Cuba rum in our room. Yum! Rum Punch. 

In the morning, we went to Eggspectation for breakfast. I tired a soft boiled egg for the first time, I wasn’t too impressed and then we went to the Eaton Centre to kill one hour before our train was to leave.

Overall, it was a very nice weekend. I really enjoy our spontaneous trip to Montreal and the spontaneous people that joined us. It’s nice that people can just jump on an opportunity on a whim. I look forward to the next time that we’ll all travel!

Looks like it could be Vegas!

It’s funny, because the whole point of the romantic trip with A. was to go to Montreal, rent a movie, get some room service popcorn and just hang out, the two of us. The first thing I did went I got to the hotel, was check room service for popcorn. They didn’t have any, I felt allot better about not going through with this plan.

I’m sitting at my dining room table right now, deciding on what to write. I’m just so happy to see the ‘Add New Post’ page again on my computer. Ah. It feels good to be back.

We arrived home from Cuba on Friday and since then, we’ve been very busy catching up with friends and family that I haven’t had a chance to tell you guys about my trip.

The Trip.

The resort, was just ok. It did. We stayed at Oasis Playa Coco, it was a 3 1/2 star. I would have to say that they are pretty accurate saying that. Luckily, it was the people that we went with that made out week long vacation very VERY fun. We were a group of 19! 

Highlights:

I’m going to guess that my gifts went over well, because each day when we returned to our hotel, we were greeted with bath/towel swans in different positions all around our room. Some days it was on the bed, others was in the sink. It was nice.

We realized that when we says 24 hour open bar and food, it doesn’t actually mean that they will have food and/or want to make your drinks. We had so-so service at the resort. Sometimes we would request for a mojito (sp?) and they would say ‘Rum Punch?’ 

Before we left, I read the Rough Guide to Cuba. I don’t feel that this book helped me very much on my trip. A. and I tried to sign up for two exersision. One the tour bus ‘forgot’ to pick us up at the hotel and the second one got canceled. Oh well, at least we got to save some money, but we didn’t get to see the city of Cuba at all.

The beach in Cayo Coco was beautiful and we spent most of our time there. Laid in the sun, reading Marley and Me, while the guys played volleyball.

Overall, it was an awesome trip. We’ve met 15 new friends. Hopefully we’ll see them again soon.

Today, I feel like we are back to reality. The weekend is over and it’s time to get down to business. Luckily, I have memories of Cuba in my head too.

One thing that I would like to do while in Cuba is to learn how to smoke a cigar. A long time ago, I used to smoke cigarettes and every single time I try and smoke a cigar, I inhale. I think I need some professional guidance on how to smoke a cigar.

What’s on your list for 2009?

A. and I are leaving for our all-inclusive vacation on December 26 to Cuba. We have been researching gifts that we can bring with us for Cubans. I’m not big on giving money. I’ve read that it encourages begging and I’d rather keep my coins for tipping at the bar.

After doing some research, I’ve decided that instead of tipping our maid money, that we would tip her with ‘things’. I have created 7 Ziploc bags full of goodies for our maid. Some things that we have packed are:

A nightie (size large)

6 pairs of socks – give one pair per day

tampons (travel size) – give one or two packs per day

1 hot wheels car

1 box of Dora band-aids – giving 2 – 3 band aids per day

Nair squeeze bottle

Intuition razor

a few toiletries

hot water bottle

and a few more things I can’t remember..

We also plan to bring a new tube of toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner that we plan to leave behind. I’m not to sure how the nightie will go over. I hope that it’s appreciated. Many people I speak to about this say that they would be just as excited to get a bouncy ball. I just can’t bring myself to give just a bouncy ball, I’m afraid that they would throw it back in my face. I want to bring stuff that they don’t normally get. Something that will make her say wow.

This weekend, we slacked on our advent calender. Here is a list of things that we were supposed to do:

A. wants J. to cook him a nice dinner.

J. wants A. to kiss her under misletoe.

A. wants J. to help him pack for Cuba.

J. wants A. to make something Christmassy with her. i.e. Cookies, peppermint bark, hot chocolate, ornaments….

So far, the only thing we’ve done is the dinner thing. Saturday night, we went to a friend’s house for their Christmas party. It was a Mexican theme. It was pretty fun. We played lots of Partini, had nachos, margaritas! and burritos. It was a success. A. considered me making burritos for the party, to be the A. wants J. to cook him dinner thing, I’m okay with that.

Tonight, I plan to be kissed under a mistletoe, while packing for A. for Cuba and maybe when we are all done, we can make something Christmassy, while preparing for our 1st Annual Virtual Blogger Christmas Party!
