As we discussed before, we tend to buy products that we already have (lotions, moisturizers, etc…). Last night, I went to the hair dresser. This was really my one thing, that couldn’t wait.
While in Cuba, the salt water in the ocean and shower seem to have affect my hair pretty bad. One night, before going out to dinner, I used the iron on my hair. I’ve done this a few times in the past, when I’m short on time, I find that the iron heats up allot quicker. This time it didn’t work out so well.
For some reason, only half of my head is a frizz ball. Like A. would say ‘it feels like steel wool.” Not good. When I spoke to my hairdresser last night, she confirmed that it was indeed because of salt water and the iron. Ugh.
What she suggested* I do, wet my hair, get an egg and take the egg white from it, mix it up in a bowl and apply to hair for about 15min, rinse. That’s it. She suggested that I probably do this for a couple of weeks, twice a week.
I’ve never used a homemade remedy before, have you? What kind of foodie beauty secrets do you have?
* This is a good idea to do for the No Buying Useless Stuff Challenge, since I won’t have to buy any special products and can use eggs that I already have in the fridge.
One word of warning — don’t try to rinse the egg out with hot/warm water. My sister did that that once when she was a teenager and ended up with scrambled egg stuck all through her hair. It took forever to pick it all out. I wasn’t much help either because I couldn’t stop laughing.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me know about this. This is exactly what I would have done too. I’m sure A. would have gotten a good laugh out of it.
So, I’m supposed to use cold water to rinse it out?

When I was younger I used to spray lemon in my hair and sit in the sun to lighten it. It worked a bit, but not as effective as I would have wanted (I’m kind of impatient you see…haha)

I’ve heard of everything from mayonaise to honey to get soft hair. But what about plain ol’ conditioner? Why not douse your head with conditioner and leave it on for a whole day (obviously a day that you’re staying in your pjs)?
Another conditioner use: shaving your gams. I never buy shaving cream anymore.

I guess you’d kind of have to rinse it out with cool water. I always thought it was the egg yolk you use on your hair, though. beat up an egg yolk in a cup of cool water, add a couple of drops of olive oil and massage into your hair. Then rinse with cool. It doesn’t have to be really cold, just not warm enough to cook the egg.

Now, I know you cooked your hair. But I am using a product called Biosilk. It’s a leave in conditioner — I swear by the stuff…
