Horn of Africa on Rideau St.
I went to this restaurant for the first time on Wednesday. It was pretty good. I’m not 100% sure what I think of it yet.
Before I write my review, I would like to know your thoughts. What do you think of the Horn of Africa restaurant on Rideau St?
- J.
Likes
- The atmosphere
- Patio. Nice people watching spot
- The staff, very friend
- The price. It was only $18 for a huge platter for two people. Veggie platter only $7!
- The food was good. If I go again, I’ll have the veggie platter. I love the cabbage and lentils goop. It was soo good.
Dislikes
- I’m a little worried what’s in that pancake type stuff. I’m not sure if I like the texture.. do you know what the pancake stuff is made out of?
- Eating with hands. I thought that I would really like this… after I’ve tried it.. I think I miss my good ol’ fork
Conclusion
- Will defiantly go back. This isn’t the type of food that I could eat once a day or once a month.. It’s a ‘once in a while, feel like having something different’ kind of place.

I love it! I could eat my weight in veggie food there. (I haven’t tried the meat dishes, obvs.)

If I ever go back to this restaurant, I will defiantly be bringing my own fork.

I’ve never been to Horn of Africa, Zoom, but I’ve been to other ethnic restaurants where they don’t have forks and sometimes you can ask for chop-sticks.

Well, I’m not sure but obvisciously they have a brass band.

The pancakes are made out of teff flour - that’s why the texture is different. Teff is a really tiny seed that can be ground up to make flour… It’s really delicious when you get used to it, and it’s stretchy which makes it perfect for scooping up yummy food.

I love the Horn of Africa. It’s so yummy. The only thing I’d complain about is the wine - it’s icky.
