Ottawa Date Ideas

A friend called me last week looking for a date idea in Ottawa. I personally think that Ottawa is a great city for ideas for dating. There is so much todo and for cheap!

One thing I loved about A., when we met, is that he was open minded and would try anything once. I never got a “oh that’s stupid” or any sort of negative attitude if I suggested something different than a dinner and movie. To this day, we still have unique and interesting dates once in a while.

Here is a small list of ideas of fun and interesting date ideas todo in Ottawa (by season):

Spring/Summer:

  • Check out the tulips at the Tulip Festival. Walk around. Take pictures of the two of you with the giant tulip statues.
  • Go to Dows Lake and rent a canoe or paddle boat.
  • Take a walk in the byward market. Have a drink on the Highlander patio and people watch.
  • Garage sales! Go to the Great Glebe Garage sale and see what cool finds you find.
  • Have a picnic in Confederation Park or off the canal.

Fall/Winter:

  • Go to the museum of civilization on a Thursday night between 4-8pm (it’s free). After you visit the museum, stop by the cafe for a slushie and popcorn and catch an Imax film.
  • Go to the museum of nature on a saturday morning before noon (it’s free). Check out all the cool exhibits they have there.
  • When the leaves are starting to turn colours, go to the Merlot Restaurant and treat yourselves to a couple of drinks in the revolving restaurant and take in the view.
  • Spins and Needles, happens once a month. Gets you two using your creativity. Make something for each other.
  • Disco Bingo at Shanghai Restaurant. Make reservations in advance and go for dinner. It gets really busy.
  • Vanier bingo. Why not? These people are very serious bingo players. Don’t forget to byod. Bring Your Own Dabber.
  • Play arcade games at Honest Lawyer or the Coliseum off Carling.

Now it’s you turn to add ideas:

  1. Picnic at the Experimental Farm!

  2. I like that you’ve included Bingo — especially Vanier Bingo. In the pre- smoking bylaw days, I wouldn’t want to be there, but now it would be a delightful way to spend an evening.

  3. It’s very entertaining.. I asked them why didn’t they sell beer at Bingo, they said ‘oh no, we can’t do that. They’d kill each other.”

:D Wear tacky t-shirts when you go:
“If there’s no bingo in heaven, I’m not going”

  4. Got a camera? Challenge each other to take pictures of a neighborhood (yours, theirs). Load ‘em onto your computer and watch them in slide show mode.

  5. Bike to the Aviation museum and have a picnic, on a sunny day in summer or fall of course.

I did so a couple weeks ago with my girlfriend, it was perfect.
